Our Beliefs
The Bible
We believe that the Bible is the inspired and infallible word of God. The people of God who received the inspiration of the Holy Spirit wrote the Bible. God revealed His word to them, and they used their styles and personalities to write the messages that God conveyed to them.
God
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He exists in three distinct persons – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. In essence, the triune God is one, but in practice has different functions. God revealed Himself in the person of Jesus Christ who, in his humanity, was the true manifestation of the invisible God. (Colossians 2:9). The Holy Spirit who was at work before the foundation of the world is the same one who now indwells every believer in Christ.
We believe that God created humanity in His own image, but when Adam sinned, humanity was separated from God and can only be reconciled to God through Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. He lived a sinless human life and offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on the cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate his power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again some day to earth to reign as King of kings and Lord of lords. (Matthew 1:22, 23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14, 15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3, 4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13).
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under his control daily. (2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18).
Salvation
We believe in salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. We believe that Jesus’ death on the cross was a substitutional atonement for the sins of the world (John 3:16-17). Jesus Christ, the son of God, chose to die on the cross for the sins of fallen humanity. There was no sin found in him. He died to pay the penalty for our sins. We believe that Jesus alone is the way to salvation (John 14:6). We believe that all humanity is in need of salvation because we cannot save ourselves. Jesus Christ died on the cross to save us from sin.
Eternal Security
Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. If you have been genuinely saved, you cannot “lose” it. Salvation is secured by the grace and power of God and not the self-effort of the Christian (John 10:29; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25, 10:10, 14; 1 Peter 1:3-5).
Church Ordinances
We believe in the two ordinances of the church: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We believe that both are commands from our Lord Jesus Christ. Baptism is by immersion and is a symbolic and public testimony of a person’s identification with Christ in his death and resurrection as well as with the body of Christ. Baptism does not save. The Lord’s Supper is also a symbol of our identity with the death of Christ and our eager anticipation of his second coming.
The New Testament Church
We believe that the New Testament Church is a body of saved people with a common faith in Jesus Christ who meet regularly to worship God and depart to the world to serve Him. The New Testament church is a witnessing community, obligated individually and collectively to tell others about Jesus Christ.
Stewardship
We believe in stewardship. We believe that all we are and all we have belongs to God. Therefore, our time, our talents and treasures are to be used for His glory. In view of this, not only must we show up in the house of God for worship but, we are also to give our tithes and offerings so that the work of God can continue in the church and in the world. We are also to give some of our personal effects to help the poor and needy both inside and outside the church. As stewards, we are to do things for others as of we are doing them for Christ (Colossians 3:17).
Priesthood of the Believer
We believe in the priesthood of the believer. In other words, through illumination and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, every believer can understand and interpret the basic message of the Bible.
Evangelism
We believe that every Christian and every church must share the gospel with lost people wherever they are. We are to share the gospel with our lives and lips. We believe that every person should have the privilege of hearing the good news that Jesus died for our sins.
Homosexuality
We believe that homosexuality is a sin. We believe that it is the duty of believers to love those who commit the sin of homosexuality and extend kindness and respect to them while communicating the sinfulness of homosexual behavior. We believe that it is possible to love a person who commits the sin of homosexuality and yet reject the sin itself, in much the same way that a parent can love a disobedient child and still reject the child’s act of disobedience.
Marriage
We believe that marriage is the union of one man and one woman. We believe that same-sex unions are sinful and that the church may not perform or recognize any marriage that is sinful before God.
